Join Us in Protecting the Black Hills

As a volunteer with the Black Hills Environmental Coalition, you’ll be part of a passionate community working to protect the natural beauty, biodiversity, and sustainability of the Black Hills region. Our volunteers play a critical role in raising awareness, organizing events, and supporting local conservation efforts. Your contributions, big or small, help shape the future of our landscapes and ensure that our communities and ecosystems thrive.

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering with us provides an opportunity to make a meaningful impact right here at home. You’ll meet like-minded people, gain hands-on experience in environmental stewardship, and support initiatives that promote sustainable practices and environmental education. Whether you have a few hours to spare or want to commit to an ongoing role, we have opportunities that match your interests and availability.

How You Can Help

  • Support Events and Community Action
Assist in setting up and managing events that bring the community together and inspire meaningful action. Your involvement will help educate the public on vital environmental issues impacting the Black Hills.

  • Engage in Outreach and Education
Join our outreach efforts to raise awareness about the critical challenges facing the Black Hills. Help spread the word through community engagement, social media, and public presentations, all designed to educate and inspire local support to care for our environment.

Specifically, we need support with an on-going newsletter and the calendar events page on this website. We want to include your creativity in how you contribute, if you have ideas or feel moved by contributing in a certain way, please do connect with us.

  • Participate in Hands-On Projects
Dive into active projects focused on preserving our natural landscape. Whether it’s habitat restoration, clean-up efforts, native plantings, or wildlife monitoring, these activities offer a tangible way to protect the environment. For example, each month, 'Clean Up Rapid Creek' meets. It's a fun morning on the creek doing hands on work that impacts our water quality and the habitat.

  • Contribute to Advocacy and Research
A big part of doing better is understanding the complete picture of our options when it comes to conservation. If you are someone who enjoys the scientific part of things or understanding how complex systems work together - it's helpful to continually educate each other on 'complete communications'.
